On October 21 1972, the Marine Mammal Protection Act was created. The MMPA simply protects all Marine animals. MMPA doesn't allow any one to take Marine animals out of their natural habitats in U.S. waters. its main focus is to protect marine animals that are rare, could possibly become extinct, and/or proven to be resources of great international significance.
PETA sided with the argument that all animals should be able to enjoy the same constitutional protection against slavery that humans have. PETA claims that the capture of killer whales are treated like slaves for being forced to live in a tank and preform for daily entertainment purposes in their San Diego and Orlando parks. SeaWorld has been proved to be in violation of the 13th amendment because they are enslaving an intelligent and highly sociable species that suffers from a similar confinement us humans could relate to. Labeling animals as properties is the same argument used against African Americans and Women's rights before they were protected PETA states.
